The DTA introduced the operation of holiday services in Duluth on January 1, 2011 with a Holiday service schedule — similar to the Sunday level of service on all major holidays including July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Year’s Day and Memorial Day.
Holiday service, however, will only be provided in the City of Duluth; not in Superior, where additional funding for holiday services is not currently available. The DTA will also run two Port Town Trolleys during the Fourth Fest to accommodate the large number of visitors in Duluth.
Holiday service schedules are highlighted on the Sunday section on all passenger hand schedules and on the DTA website at DuluthTransit.com.
Meanwhile, in an effort to accommodate the Bayfront Festival Park during the Independence Day Celebration, the DTA will operate two Port Town Trolleys on its regular route from 12:15 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2013 — circulating every 15 minutes between downtown Duluth, Canal Park and the Bayfront Festival Park.
The Trolleys will provide direct service to Bayfront Festival Park during Fourth Fest with a special stop on Railroad Street. However, Harbor Drive will be closed to all traffic during the Fourth Fest and the Trolleys will not be able to serve the Great Lakes Aquarium, the Excursion Dock, the S/S Irvin or Duluth Cinema Theater on July 4th.
The Port Town Trolley fare is only 50 cents per passenger. Unlimited-ride Trolley Day Passes are available for purchase on the Trolleys for only $4. DTA passes and stored value fare cards will also be honored on the Trolleys with children under the age of four riding for free.
