DAYBA is proud to announce the fifth annual Border Battle, an all-star basketball game(s) featuring the best players from Northeastern Minnesota against the best from North Central Wisconsin. This year’s event is Tuesday, March 26 at the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Ralph Romano Gymnasium. The girls game tips off at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 7:30.

Once again, the Border Battle, the premier basketball showcase in the Northland, will feature numerous college recruits, including Esko senior Savanna Trapp (UCLA), Minnesota’s all-time leading shot-blocker, and Grand Rapids sophomore Alex Illikainen, one of the most highly sought-after underclassmen in the country. Additionally, Grand Rapids senior Kenzie Kane (MN girls) and Rice Lake’s Jenna Orr (WI girls) have committed to play collegiately at UMD.

Other notable participants include Lakeview Christian Academy sophomore Bjorn Broman (MN boys), Duluth East’s Shaq Coleman and Mat Lochner (MN boys), Esko’s Marisa Shady (MN girls) and Rice Lake’s Ellwood Ellenson (WI boys).

This year’s Border Battle will feature special halftime presentations to a trio of Northeastern Minnesota standouts: Lakeview Christian Academy’s Anders Broman (Minnesota’s all-time leading boys scorer), Braham’s Rebekah Dahlman (Minnesota’s all-time leading girls scorer) and Trapp.

Three of the four coaches for this year’s event have been confirmed. They are: Paul McDonald (Vermilion Community College), John Bauer (Itasca Community College) and Damien Paulson (Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College).

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for students and seniors.
