Three Duluth East High School students have been named 2013 National Merit Scholarship finalists:
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) — a test which screens approximately 1.5 million entrants each year.

The Duluth East Daredevils left Duluth on Tuesday to compete in the FIRST Robotics World Championships in St. Louis, MO. The Daredevils earned the right to compete in this event when they won the Midwest Regional in Chicago, Il. The World Championships will take place April 25-27. This year’s game is Ultimate Ascent, where robots shoot Frisbees and scale pyramids to earn points.

The Duluth Denfeld High School Automotive team participated in the Minnesota SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference in Bloomington. The team of four seniors each earned medals at the Awards ceremony. Justin Tibodeau (Duluth Denfeld) placed first in Auto Service Technology, earning $19,000 in scholarships. Justin will compete in the SkillsUSA National Event in Kansas City, Missouri on June 24-28, 2013. Sean Conway (Duluth Denfeld High School) placed second in Mechanical Dexterity. Tanner Tibodeau (Duluth Denfeld High School) placed second and David Bowman (Duluth East High School) placed third in Auto Shop Safety.
